Actually the very early church believed in the imminent return of a Christ. This is because the apostles did as one can see in their writings. The early church did as well and this died out as that first generation did. So this is not a new eschatology at all but a resurrection of an old belief that was reasonable based on the information that the apostles had. The question about the rapture of the Church is simply based on how one interprets and where one puts the “Wrath”. The only place the wrath can go is either to include the entire 7 year Tribulation, hence a Pretrib rapture, or the wrath is the second half of the tribulation and then the rapture is in the middle. Either is biblically accurate based on literal interpretations but require some real twisting and deeming figurative if one puts the
