The Year of the Water Snake; The Cosmic Serpent Returns

Year of the WATER Snake: 2013, Interesting!

I think it is quite interesting that this particular year (2013) is the year of the water snake.  The Water Snake!  This only comes around once every 60 years, but it had to be THIS year.  Fascinating!

Why?

It’s fascinating because the snake (and more especially the water snake) is a very ancient symbol (metaphorical symbol) of the dark, often nefarious forces of the cosmic sea.  Take Jormungandr for instance.  Jornumgandr is the animation of the Norse concept of the dark, mysterious, endless cosmos.  At the end of the world, Thor  (personification of thunder and rain; protector of humans) will battle the mighty Jormungandr, defeat darkness forever, but die himself in the battle.

What about Python?  Apollo (personification of a sun-like celestial body) destroyed the evil serpent Python.  Hera, the sister-wife of Zeus, was the yin to Zeus’s yang.  She kept trying to destroy everything that Zeus created.  The word, Zeus, comes from a proto-Greek word meaning “DAY”.  Zeus was the personification of the DAY (light).  When DAY created the solar deity Apollo by his union with Leto, Hera created and sent Python to destroy Apollo.

Hera may mean “Celestial Bovine” since one of her epithets is “cow-eyed” (source: Wikipedia).  This is an interesting similarity to the Norse Audhumla (a cosmic, primordial cow that licked the cosmic ice, from which four rivers of milk flowed (Milky Way?).

The Babylonias had their Tiamat.  The Zoroastrians had their Dahag.  The Mongolians and Tibetans had their Arakho.  The Hittites had their Rahab.  The Cannanites had their Lotan.  And, the Hebrews had their Leviathan.  All of them were considered dark and dangerous.  All of them were serpents; And, ALL OF THEM were associated with WATER!!!

Wow!

Water Snakes, every one!  Are we to understand that the water snake will attack this year?  Maybe!

Even the Book of Revelation says that the dragon will attack in the last days; and it says that the Christian solar deity, Jesus, will destroy the dragon.  The sun (Jesus) will be darkened, it says.  But, then Jesus [the sun] will appear in the sky with great power and with great glory!

The Mongolian version of the Tibetan Gesar Myth is quite interesting.  It says that there is a great demonic dragon living in the heavens, always chasing the sun and moon.  And, when he catches one, there will be an eclipse (darkness).
